Open Calls for Research Proposals


The MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab is accepting MIT-IBM research team proposals for the 2019-2020 academic year. Successful proposals will advance fundamental artificial intelligence research in four areas: AI Algorithms, Physics of AI, Applications of AI and Advancing Shared Prosperity through AI. The Lab will consider three types of projects:

  • Exploratory Projects(1 year; up to $150,000 per year)
  • Core Projects (up to 3 years; $150,000 – $250,000 per year)
  • Large Projects (up to 3 years; $250,000 – $400,000 per year)

Proposals are due Thursday, June 6, 2019, 5 pm (EST). No extensions will be granted.
Decisions will be announced by August 1, 2019.

The MIT-Liberty Mutual  Insurance Collaboration is accepting proposals from MIT researchers for the 2019-2020 academic year. Research topics under discussion include efforts to make decision-making algorithms fair and transparent to customers and regulators, use computer vision to reduce crashes by identifying dangerous driving conditions and roadways, further protect the anonymity and security of personal data, use natural language understanding to analyze insurance claims and speed processing and compensation, and structure investment portfolios. Please join us for a workshop on the call for proposals on Monday, May 13, 2019, 2pm-5pm in the Kiva seminar room (32-G449).
